Headshot Shoot Preparation

Guidelines for Corporate Shoot

Men

Bring at least 3 options of blazers/jackets, shirts and ties. Make sure everything is pressed and clean, and pick items that you feel represent your brand best. Generally, simpler patterns are best unless you wish to convey your personality through a loud jacket. A corporate headshot today can be casual, semi formal, or formal and it depends on your type of business. For example, you might want to wear a jacket and shirt without a tie to seem more approachable.

Bring hair product and a hair brush and make sure your hair is styled when you arrive. Whether you are shaven or not is up to you, but make sure your facial hair is neat and clean if you have a beard.

Women

Bring at least 3 options of blazer/jacket and blouses. Pick colors and styles that you feel flatter you and also represent your brand best. Make sure to have your hair professionally done before the shoot for best results. Makeup should be light and clean, not too heavy around the eyes or mouth. Bring glossy lipstick and a few color options as well. Generally I advise women not to wear any earrings or jewelry as it is all distracting from the main subject of the headshot - you! If you want to wear some jewelry, just pick classic, simple styles.

Guidelines for Actor/Model Shoot

Men

Bring at least 3 shirt options to the shoot. Crew necks, simple patterns or solid colors work best. Bring a black t-shirt or light sweater as well. Nothing too distracting or with a strange neck line. Make sure everything is pressed and clean, and pick items that you feel flatter you (colors you feel look good on you or bring out your eyes, etc).

No earrings or jewelry as it all distracts from the main subject - you! Make sure to bring a hair brush and hairspray, and a hair tie as I usually like to end the session with some ponytail shots (you would be surprised how many women love the ponytail look).

General Guidelines and Studio Location

Make sure you arrive to the shoot well rested and prepared. Your hair, makeup, clothing, etc. is all very important and should be thought out before the shoot. I will help you choose between your options which to photograph and I have a very good eye for colors and combinations. We will photograph at least 3 looks within the hour shoot so you have a variety to choose from.

My studio is located at 20 Nassau Blvd South in Garden City, and the sign reads “Music Academy of Garden City Creative Arts Center.” I have another location up the block which also says “Music Academy” so make sure you go to #20. There is a sign in the window that reads “Pete Coco Photography.”

The studio is 5 minutes from the Nassau Blvd LIRR train stop and located north of Hempstead Turnpike and south of Stewart Avenue. If your GPS takes you to a residence, just keep heading south into the commercial area. We are located in a row of stores and there is plenty of free street parking as well as a lot across the street just south of the studio which is also free.
